History of the Open Road Royal Deluxe
The open Road Royal Deluxe owes its name to the fact that it was originally sold with an opened, or unshaped crown that could be shaped on the spot to the customer’s convenience.
Today, it is sold with the signature hand-pressed Cattleman crown, a classic western style enjoyed by the likes of Harry Truman, Lyndon B. Johnson and a number of other influential personalities.
The Open Road Royal Deluxe is made of 6X fur felt for a perfect blend of comfort and durability. Its 4 ¼” Cattleman Crown features a slim grosgrain ribbon topped with a Stetson-branded pin and finished with a handsewn leather sweatband and satin liner for unparalleled comfort.

What do the Xs in my Hat Stand For?
The quality of the body used to make the hat is what determines the number of Xs in a Stetson hat. For felt hats, Xs determines the percentage of beaver fur used to make the body of the hat. Stetson uses beaver, mink, chinchilla and other furs to make its hat bodies.
How to Care for my Stetson Open Road Royal Deluxe?
Use a horsehair bristle hat brush to dust your 6X fur felt hat. Use short, vigorous strokes, brushing in a counterclockwise fashion.
For a rich silk finish, use a jet of steam to slightly coat your hat and brush your hat with soft, long strokes.
Make a habit of handling your hat by its brim, rather than pinching the crown. This way, your hat will look good and sharp for a much longer time.
Cleaning my Open Road Royal Deluxe
The cleaning and reblocking of a felt hat requires skill and patience. The Henri Henri hat store offers the most comprehensive hat cleaning and reblocking service and Canada.
We strongly advise that you only deal with professional hatters for cleaning and reblocking, once every year or two.
