How to Brush My Felt Hat
For wool felts, a wool brush or lint brush with soft bristles will do the job and can be used in any brushing direction.
Fur felts require the use of a silk brush, preferably semi-rigid, such as horsehair brushes. Starting from the crown of your hat, brush each surface with short, brisk strokes. Always brush in a counterclockwise direction.
To clean the underside of the hat, continue brushing counterclockwise. For a flawless, silky finish, use a kettle or the steam function of an iron to apply steam to the felt after your first brushing. Immediately follow up with a second brushing, using slow and softer strokes.
Which colour Should I Choose?
If you have a dark-coloured felt, use the black brush. If you have a light-coloured felt, use the beige brush. It’s important not to use the same brush for both a dark hat and a light hat, as this will transfer fibres of different colours and soil your hats. The colour of the brush serves as a guide to know which brush to use depending on your hat’s colour.
